Your speakers play a 0.45-second log sweep tone — from 180 Hz up to 4 kHz. The iPhone mic records the whole thing: the direct sound from the speakers, plus every reflection bouncing back from walls, ceiling and furniture.

Do I need to buy a special mic?
No. The built-in mic isn't absolutely calibrated — results carry a low-confidence label and serve as a cross-check against the geometric model, which is enough to get started. When you need absolute accuracy, plug in a USB measurement mic like the miniDSP UMIK-1 / UMIK-2 — their REW calibration files are supported, and a one-time 94 dB calibrator reference gives you true dB SPL readings.
Is this just another EQ app?
No. EQ flattens the curve with filters; Acouvero tells you what's wrong physically first. Often a small furniture move beats any EQ — and only then does EQ make sense.
My room is small / cluttered / irregular — does it still work?
Yes. Acouvero doesn't assume a shoebox — the sweep measures the actual sound field. Bedrooms, living rooms, L-shapes, open kitchens — all tested.
Does it upload audio from my home?
No. All signal processing happens on-device. The recording is just sine tones — no voice, no music — and we collect zero audio.
How much will I have to spend on fixes?
Every suggestion is tagged with effort and cost. The first one is almost always $0 — half the problem usually goes away by moving furniture. Panels and EQ come later.
Surround / multi-channel support?
Up to 5.1: left / right / center / surround L-R / subwoofer can all be added in the 3D room, as many as you like — and every speaker fully participates in reflection paths, RIR simulation and panel recommendations, not just for show. 7.1 (rear surrounds) and Atmos height channels aren't supported yet.
What about Android?
iOS-only for now. With a thousand different mic models in the Android ecosystem, hitting our accuracy target is too costly — we'll revisit down the road.
